THE EVENT
A weekend of English Country Dance to suit all tastes (#25 in the series). The series is
organised and led by John & Hilary Turner.
On this occasion the calling was shared between John and our 'Guest' Caller
Philippe Callens with music provided by Dave & Victoria Yeomans of Deo Volente.
On the Saturday afternoon we also had a Caller's Workshop led by Philippe & John.
The weekend commenced with dinner on the evening of Friday 15th January, 2010 and concluded with a farewell dance on the afternoon of Sunday 17th January. There was a mixture of dances & workshops, and some free time to explore Bournemouth & the beautiful environs.
GUEST CALLER - Philippe Callens| PHILIPPE CALLENS is known internationally as a leader of English country dance and also of square and contra dance. He started dancing in 1975 in Antwerp, and has been teaching for 30 years. In that period he has steadily gained a reputation as a leader of country dance who can easily combine high quality dancing with the dancers’ personal enjoyment. He has called at festivals and dance weekends in Europe & around the World. |

GUEST MUSICIANS - Dave & Victoria Yeomans.
| DAVE & VICTORIA YEOMANS an accordion and flute duo based in Nottingham. They are both experienced folk musicians who had played individually for many years in a variety of settings . Since forming Deo Volente in 2006 they have brought that experience together to play lively, enjoyable music with the emphasis firmly on making you dance, whether it is Playford or contras. They play at many dance weekends, festivals and club dances across the country – and can usually be found on the dance floor on their weekends off. |

HOTEL PICCADILLY
The hotel, an AA 3 star establishment in Bournemouth, Dorset, is 'the
prime venue for hosted dancing holidays in the UK'. The accommodation is
comfortable and stylish, and the spacious ballroom has a magnificent
maple floor, sparkling chandeliers, delightful period paintings and
dramatic drapes. The restaurant is well known for its fine
cuisine.
All accommodation is en-suite and is available in Double, Twin
(shared) and Single rooms (very limited in number). A small number of
guests are accommodated in an adjacent hotel.
Hotel Piccadilly is situated in
Bath Road close to the centre of Bournemouth, approx 10 mins walk from
the pier, and only a short distance from the coach & rail stations with
regular services from London and other regional centres.
